After a successful career in sales and marketing, Matt Whitcomb started Lasting Legacies in 2008.
Matt wrote ten books and two e-books for his clients to use as marketing tools. He would brand the books specifically for his clients (a financial planner for example) who would give them away as marketing gifts. The focus of the books was to capture the life stories of people, thus creating an emotional bond between the financial planner and their client.
The sales process Matt used was to interview his corporate prospects (such as the financial planner) about their parents. The prospect would get emotionally involved talking about their mom or dad, and would quickly see the benefit for their clients. The sale was closed.
In 2014, Matt chose to focus the business in a more personal, rather than corporate direction. The business mix for Lasting Legacies was 80% corporate and 20% personal life stories. Matt decided to reverse those percentages. He still has a few key corporate clients, but most of his time is spent writing the life stories of someone’s mom or dad.
Matt enjoys listening to people. He’s continually amazed at the breadth and depth of stories of people who consider themselves “ordinary” or “dull”. He loves capturing those stories that his clients will enjoy for years after their loved one has passed away.
Matt and his wife Patty live on 11 wooded acres in rural Gerrardstown, WV. He enjoys woodworking (especially with their grandchildren), reading, and serving in church responsibilities.
